The Ministry for the transformation and the civil service launches the call of grants for the creation of spaces for Sectoral Data

The objective is to foster the creation of centres demostradores and the launching of cases of use of data spaces. The call expected raise up to 150 billion in subsidies.

The Ministry for the transformation and the civil service, through its secretariat of digitization status and Artificial intelligence, published in the last january through the official gazette (Opens in new window) the regulatory basis underlying the call of grants for the establishment of centres demostradores and cases of use of spaces for sectoral data, the deadline for submission of requests is open from this month of april until the next 16th of may.

The Programme areas of Data to which the request relates to this appeal is an initiative which aims to foster the development of space projects in strategic sectors of the economy. This initiative is aligned with the european strategy of the European Regulations, and Governance of Data and the achievement of the single market data.

The data have become an essential resource for economic growth, employment creation and social progress, remain a key element in the digitalization of the society and companies. The analysis, facilitating the optimization of processes and decisions, innovation and prediction of future events. This global trend has enormous potential in various fields, from health, environment, food security, climate and resource efficiency, to energy and transportation systems and intelligent cities.

The European Commission (EC), in the communication on the construction of a european database, published in january 2017, characterizing the economy as an ecosystem of different types of market players, as researchers and manufacturers, suppliers, cooperating to ensure that data are accessible and usable. This allows such agents to extract value from these data through the creation of a variety of applications with great potential to improve the daily lives.

The value of the economy of data for the european Union (EU) was estimated at 434.030 billion in 2020 and it is estimated that this value reach 659.000 billion in 2025 and even 851.500 billion in 2030.

Characteristics and requirements in the call

The objective of the call is to promote, through subsidies, the creation of centres demostradores and the launch and operation of cases of use of data spaces in the strategic sectors of the economy. These projects should provide solutions to challenges of business through the sharing of data. The objectives of this action are:

  • Build ecosystems for data exchange between members of the strategic sectors.
  • Remove entry barriers to the exchange of data.
  • Establishment of the necessary infrastructure and organization of operators of space data.
  • Develop new business models based on data.

The projects funded development pilot project ”, grouped in two lines for two types of different projects:

  • Line 1. demostradores Centres: development of space technology platforms in the strategic sectors for experimentation and development of pilots and proof of concept.
  • Line 2. Use cases: developing productive use to promote the momentum of the strategic sectors.

The main features of this plan are as follows:

  • It is for business, (public or private), business associations and bodies of communication and dissemination of knowledge.
  • It has been designed in the form of beneficiary.
  • Is open to any sector of activity, with the exception of tourism, with specific notices.
  • A total budget of eur 150 million, of which 40 are destined to line 1 and 2 110.
  • Aid is eur 5 million for project and the minimum of €300,000.
  • Shall be granted on a competitive competitive.
  • The beneficiaries must have a domicile prosecutor in the eu and, additionally, establishment or branch located in spanish territory.
  • The intensity of aid will depend on the type and size of entity.
  • Projects should be completed by 31 december 2025.
