As a result of european recognition of the role of the internet and digital technologies in the transformation of markets and society, the commission presented on 2 may 2017 the proposal to create a single digital gateway in response to requests from citizens and businesses to facilitate their daily tasks at both national and cross-border. It has given rise to this new regulation on the creation of the Single Digital Gateway the strategic relevance boils down to three points:
- It is one of the key actions in the single market strategy established by the commission communication of 28 october 2015 entitled “ Improve the single market: more opportunities for citizens and businesses ”,
- It responds to the demands of the european parliament and council to provide a package of information and assistance more complete and easy to use, so that best meets the needs of citizens and businesses in their cross-border activities,
- Is aligned with the objectives of the ministerial declaration of electronic administration of tallinn, signed by 32 european countries, including Spain, under the chairmanship of Estonia in october 2017.
