  In the context of semantic interoperability initiatives, the European Commission has defined an application profile of the DCAT vocabulary published by W3C for describing data catalogues with three key concepts: catalogue, dataset and distribution. DCAT-AP has two extensions: GeoDCAT-AP for describing geospatial datasets, dataset series and services; and StatDCAT-AP for describing statistical data sets.
