Open the public consultation for the revision of regulation eIDAS

The public consultation will be open until next 2 october for receipt of comments.

The european commission has launched the public consultation (Opens in new window) for the revision (Opens in new window) of Regulation (EU) 910/2014 (Opens in new window) the european parliament and council of 23 july 2014, concerning the electronic identification and confidence to electronic transactions in the internal market (Rules Of Procedure eIDAS ).

In this review provides for the possible establishment of a European Digital Identity, in line with the Conclusions of the council (Opens in new window) from 9 june, on the commission communication called “ configuring the digital future of europe ”. In these conclusions, the commission is requested to review existing legislation and the state party is encouraged to consider proposals for further development of the current border identification and authentication, on the basis of the rules of procedure eIDAS with a view to a framework for a european digital identity, which would motivate the member states to make available to all europeans digital identities that could be used widely practised and that are both safe and interoperable, for the safety of public and private transactions online.

The objective of this consultation is to collect comments on the barriers and the drivers of development and adoption of electronic identity in europe and about the impact of the various options for making a european digital identity.
