The European Commission sets up a helpdesk for the exchange of data

This is a web site aimed at governments, businesses and citizens in general, aimed at investigating and reporting practices for data exchange and those elements that influence their Success.

The “ Support centre for the exchange of data (Opens in new window) ” ( Support Centre for Data Sharing or SCDS) is a new initiative funded by the european commission with the aim of encouraging the ecosystem european database. This is a web site aimed at governments, businesses and citizens in general, aimed at investigating and reporting practices for data exchange and those elements that influence their Success. The aim is to facilitate public or private agencies will have their data available to citizens and other organizations (public or private) for reuse, regardless of the model chosen for this.

We must not confuse the “ centre of support for the exchange of data ” with an open data portal. The SDC focused its efforts to collect, develop and disseminate tools and technical expertise, as well as to provide practical support to the data, but does not data or metadata in the service of citizens. Currently available is a first version of the web. The advanced version will be launched in autumn and include the following sections – some already disponibles-:

  • Information on what is the exchange of data and the benefits, as the increase in the performance and value of services or the improvement of the decision-making.

  • Technical guidance, focused on three Areas: Application programming Interfaces (APIS), security of data and traceability and clearly identifying the sources of data. In addition to support, will provide a SCDS section Widgets and tools (Opens in new window) created by third parties to share data in real life.

  • Legal guidance, which will include studies on eu legislation applicable to the exchange of personal cross-cutting challenges and possible resolution strategies, including good practices and interpretative guidance. Site also will offer models of contractual terms.

  • Success stories in the exchange of data, through the experience of companies such as the dutch JoinData (Opens in new window) encourages sustainable innovation in the agricultural sector to enable farmers to share their data for the quick, easy and secure.

  • News and events. The site will gather news and events, which will enable users to know the latest trends and opportunities in the exchange of data.

  • A forum (Opens in new window) in which users will have the opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience.

The idea is to create a participatory environment and continually evolving, go to adapt to the needs of re-users of data. This has enabled a contact form. (Opens in new window) , which will enable the community of professionals of data and any citizen who wants to share your questions and opinions.

With this initiative the european commission seeks to forward.81 digital single market (Opens in new window) a unique environment for the professional community, and to contribute to economic growth and social council in the region.
