The NCC and the FEMP published a fact sheet to improve safety in local entities

This document is intended to serve as a reference guide for elected officials and officials of public sector and offers a catalogue of the requirements and responsibilities more meaningful to ensure the safety of local entities.

The Centre Cryptologic, has prepared, together with the spanish federation of municipalities and provinces (FEMP), a fact sheet for local entities cybersecurity . This document is intended to serve as a reference guide for the protection of infrastructure and information systems of town councils, local government councils and spaniards.

At present, local entities are using an increasing range of technological elements. The staff of the Local Administration (from the presidents, acaldes deputies and councillors, until the last of staff, through the registrars, • treasurers, conductors, etc.), develops a good part of its activities viewed.

This is why it is imperative ensure the protection of these technologies, information and services because, to constitute the element that is closer to the interests of citizens, completed it is essential for the development of Spain. And it is therefore essential that all the relevant local revise, update and strengthen continuously its approach to cybersecurity.

A fact sheet to strengthen security in the local entities

In this regard, the NCC and the FEMP have worked together to offer a guide to strengthen levels of cybersecurity entities in order to ensure the smooth functioning of the services offered and, ultimately, the protection of citizens. To that end, they provide the public sector and, in particular, to the governing bodies of local entities (whether as elected representatives of civil service), this fact sheet, which have collected information of interest on the basis of the following paragraphs: the problem of local cybersecurity, compliance with the National Safety in EE.LL., public officials of cyber security, the provision of external services, as well as a table of roles and responsibilities. And all this information has been prepared on the basis of the following objectives:

  • Show in a concise and clear to those responsible for local entities, whether elected officials and officials, reality of the risks and threats that, for the normal performance of administrative procedures, the functions involved in institutional development and provincial or municipal management and administration of local entities, under the cyberspace.
  • Noting the assurances given by the National security (NHIS, operated by Royal Decree 3/2010, of 8 january, forced observance by all the relevant local), as well as to outline a catalogue of the requirements and responsibilities more meaningful those public managers must take into consideration in order to ensure information security and the services provided by the local entity concerned, in each of their respective competences and powers.

With this document, the centre Cryptologic, national and the spanish federation of municipalities and provinces expected to contribute to improving cybersecurity spanish local order to build confidence and security in the use of these technologies protecting the confidentiality of data and ensuring their authenticity, integrity and availability.
